Saai, or could it be better?

In November 2025 we held a workshop at AZC Grave for children between 7 and 10 years old.

This time, we focused on Plein 1944, where children spend a lot of time during the weekends, and on the nearby roundabout. We also asked them what they think about the city in general, and they described it as ‘saai’ (boring), with a lot of cars and not many things to do.

The results, as you can see, represent the things that our young residents miss in their daily lives: trees, water, and play elements for children.

One group also decided to claim the city as “girls only” — girl power.

For us, it is interesting to see the colours and urban spaces that Nijmegen lacks in order to satisfy all its residents. Later on, we will make some comparisons between what adults want from the city and what children want in it.
